PhD candidate, Austin Phoenix, passed his Preliminary Examination for his PhD today with flying colors. Austin, who is on loan from the Naval Research Lab (NRL) in the Naval Center for Space Technology, is sponsored by a prestigious fellowship to support his work at VAST and VT. His work entitled "High Precision Thermal Morphing of Smart Structures in Space" has already resulted in a few publications with novel applications to the space industry. Work hard means playing hard as well. The team is under a lot of work/stress and needed some time off for some fun. Thanks to the Christiansburg's awesome frisbee golf course we got the chance for some much needed time off and some fun. The team has been very productive with journals, conference papers and defenses! What am awesome team. Great job all!
