We had a nice time sharing thanksgiving with Remi, V and Sriram! Thanks for coming! Help me in congratulating Sriram for winning the Royster Award from the Acoustical Society of America's North Carolina Chapter. Sriram and Kevin went to NC today to participate in a poster competition at Chapel Hill. The work presented was entitled "Characterization of acoustic emissions with ambient noise using the a novel Continuous Acoustic Scanning Technique (CAST)." The work is based on a side project that Sriram has been working on, in order to develop a new technique for acoustic characterization - CAST. It should also be mentioned that Kevin Lefeave has helped in this work and it was the initial work started with Carlos Garcia. Way to go guys. Mico Woolard, Ivan Vu, Jacob Aber and Dr. Tarazaga gave a demonstration on mechanical vibrations to the inVenTs community. The inVenTs Residential Community provides an interdisciplinary living-learning space for students interested in exploring their ability to envision, create and transform innovative ideas into action. We talked about the importance of math, in particular how to solve differential equations with physical meaning and how linear algebra is crucial to understand system of equation describing motion. We also demonstrated, with some physical demos, how modes are identified in structural systems and how to make a vibration absorber and experimentally see how it works. |
