PhD candidate, Austin Phoenix, passed his Preliminary Examination for his PhD today with flying colors. Austin, who is on loan from the Naval Research Lab (NRL) in the Naval Center for Space Technology, is sponsored by a prestigious fellowship to support his work at VAST and VT. His work entitled "High Precision Thermal Morphing of Smart Structures in Space" has already resulted in a few publications with novel applications to the space industry.
